I love to travel, and I can’t do it without a motorcycle, so when I go to an island I always try to rent a motorcycle at the airport. I’ll tell you about my experience in Menorca.
Sometimes my kids let my wife and I get away for a weekend.
Well, more than my children, my in-laws, who stay with them.
In April 2022 we visited the island of Menorca, and of course we rented a motorcycle at the airport in Mahon. We did the same in Ibiza and Mallorca.
From my point of view, it is the best way to move around the island of Menorca, and I will tell you why.
Why do I think the best way to get to know Menorca is by motorcycle?
We are lucky to live in a country that offers us an immense variety of paradises to enjoy. Menorca is undoubtedly one of those paradises worth visiting.
However, I think it can gain a lot if you decide to enjoy it on a motorcycle.
My reasons for renting a motorcycle in Menorca are the following:
- In Menorca the traffic is complicated in summer, the accesses to the coves and main towns are usually collapsed, so moving by motorcycle can give you a lot of extra time every day.
- Parking becomes an impossible task. Renting a motorcycle in Menorca guarantees you to park literally wherever you want, without fear of fines.
- In Menorca we are going to enjoy the good weather, its coves and its atmosphere. Feeling the wind on your face, smelling the saltpeter while carrying a towel and flip-flops is priceless.
- The most popular coves (and unfortunately almost all of them lately), fill up quickly. As soon as the parking is full you will not be able to access them. You can forget about this problem if you go by motorcycle.
- Finally, renting a motorcycle in Menorca will be cheaper than renting a car, not only for the price of the vehicle, but also for the gasoline and the price you will save in parking.
Which motorcycle to rent in Menorca?
When it comes to finding a good scooter rental on the island of Menorca, the choice is clear: it is best to rent a scooter.
And it’s not that I’m passionate about them, I love classic motorcycles, but it’s certainly the most comfortable thing to do.
The fact of having a good trunk to store things, either under the seat or as a separate suitcase, is a plus when going to the beach or any other plan.
They also consume much less and are easier to handle.
However, if you prefer to rent a motorcycle, I will also give you several options later.
Where to rent a motorcycle in Menorca
When we look for a map of motorcycle rental companies on the island of Menorca, there are clearly 3 options:
- Renting a motorcycle at the airport in Menorca: for me it is the best option and that is what I did.
- Rent a motorcycle in Mahón: it is the capital and where you will find the largest offer of motorcycles. It is the best option if you are staying there.
- Rent a motorcycle in Ciudadela de Menorca: undoubtedly the best option if you are going to stay there.
1. Options for renting a motorcycle at Mahón airport
If your idea is to get off the plane, with very little luggage and start enjoying the island, renting a scooter at the airport of Menorca is the best option.
It’s a good idea if you have a couple of days and what you carry is a backpack. This is exactly what I did.
If you have a suitcase, it is best to go to the hotel and then rent the motorcycle, either in Mahón or in Ciudadela.
At Menorca airport you have these options to rent a scooter:
- Ride On airport: this is the best option, also if you are going to Mahón. They pick you up at the airport and take you to their office in the center of Mahón. You will also save the transfer to the capital. I thought it was a master move. They have mainly 125cc scooters with trunk and a good space under the seat to store your helmet. They also have some medium displacement scooters and 49cc scooters.
They have a service that I think is awesome, and that is that they can take your bike to your accommodation. Perfect if you want to leave your stuff and not have to bother going to their facilities.
The rental price of a 125 cc scooter is 17 euros per day. More than reasonable.
- Motos Valls: is another good option to rent a scooter at the airport of Menorca. They have 18 offices spread around the island of Menorca, which makes them the best option if you want to return the scooter in another city. What I loved about Motos Valls is that you can also rent some very interesting scooters, like a Moto Guzzi V85 E4 (850cc), which is a great bike.
They have the cheapest price to rent a motorcycle in Menorca, for a 49 cc scooter for 11 euros per day.
- MotorrentMenorca: although they have their main office in Mahón, if you rent the motorcycle for more than 2 days they pick you up for free at the airport. If you are staying in Mahón you save the trip to the city, so it is a great option. You can also return the scooter at the airport in Menorca. They have a good range of 50 cc and 125 cc scooters.
It costs 13 euros per day for a 125 cc scooter.
- Balear Rentals: local company with more than 150 motorcycles on the island of Menorca, so you are assured of availability. They have a pick up service at Mahón airport free of charge.
- Cooltra: is probably the most widespread scooter rental agency in the Balearic Islands. It is based in Mahón but offers pick-up service at the airport. It offers scooters of 50, 125 and 400 cc. Its price is somewhat more expensive than the previous ones, starting at 18.75 euros per day.
- Ok Mobility: a company with a large international presence and an office at the airport. You can get a 125 cc scooter from 18 euros per day.
2. Motorcycle rental options in Mahón
If your idea is to stay in the capital of Menorca, the ideal is to make yourself comfortable in the accommodation and then go out to look for your motorcycle.
In Mahón, being the capital you have many options to rent a motorcycle:
- Ride On: the same company that I told you about for the airport has its head office in Mahón. With the same prices and models of motorcycles.
- MotorrentMenorca: the same, we have talked about them in the Mahón airport options.
- Balear Rentals: they also have offices in the capital city.
- Menorca New Rent: local scooter rental company. They have 3 models of 125 cc scooters. It is run by 2 young entrepreneurs from the island, and I love it.
3. Motorcycle rental in Ciudadella de Menorca
Ciudadela is the biggest town in Menorca (it used to be the capital) and that is noticeable in the great offer it has for renting a motorcycle.
Any of the companies I have mentioned at the airport have offices in Ciudadela, so I will not repeat them so as not to confuse you.
- Motosrent: local scooter rental company 800 meters from the port of Ciutadella. I have not been able to locate their prices on their website, but they indicate that they are low cost.
- Menorca en Moto: its name says it all and we agree with them, Menorca is better on a motorcycle. Of course, their prices seemed to me more expensive than in other destinations.
- Top Scooter: for 22 euros per day you have a great variety of scooters in Ciudadella de Menorca.
4. Other places to rent a motorcycle in Menorca Island
- Menorca Motosrent: they have their offices in Alaior and Cala San Esteban, although they can take your scooter anywhere on the island. They have 125 cc scooters from 15 euros per day.
