We generally like all motorcycles, but… all of them? Today we present the most unattractive motorcycles in the world.
If you own any of the bikes on this list, please forgive us! It could be said that you have a motorcycle with a lot of… personality! For tastes the colors, of course, but here begins what in our humble opinion, constitutes the greatest aberration in the history of motorcycling. If you’re not sitting down do it, because we start with the most horrible bikes in the world.
1) Ossa Urbe (1982-1984), one of the ugliest motorcycles
We start our list, as it should be, with a self-evaluation. We are fans of the domestic product and we have many Spanish motorcycles in our workshop, but Urbe was not Ossa’s finest hour.
The cloverleaf maker, like other Spanish motorcycle factories, was struggling. The Japanese had come into Spain strongly, taking over a market that was dominated by the domestic product before. Ossa, which was known for its offroad motorcycles, had to change, and its idea was the Ossa Urbe.
It was a city motorcycle, similar to modern scooters, with full fairing and built-in bags. Ossa tried to use parts from other models to make it cheaper to produce, but its design and price made it a flop in sales, with only 500 units.
2) Buell RR1000 Battle Twin (1986-1988)
This bike, like others on the list, had mixed reactions when it came out. Some saw it as a revolutionary model for its time and some hated its hard-to-look-at appearance.
This bike had a 998 cc engine from Harley Davidson that produced 70 horsepower. Erik Buell designed it with the goal of beating the Ducatis that ruled the tracks in America. He never achieved that, but he did create a very fast and agile bike, despite its very heavy engine. We have to admire that Erik Buell was a young engineer who had just left Harley and decided to make his own bike. He succeeded.
The Buell RR1000 is seen by many as one of the ugliest bikes in the universe.
3) Scootavia Serie 1 (1949-1954)
Some might say it’s ugly, but we really like this bike. This hybrid of a tractor and a scooter was produced in France in the 1950s. It was sold as a high-end motorcycle, for 131,000 francs, and had 125 and 175 cc engines. It could go up to 75 km/h and, like the Vespas, it came with an extra wheel.
4) Harley Topper (1960-1965)
We keep an eye on the scooters. Especially the one that was made by the American Harley Davidson. It had a single-cylinder two-stroke engine, 165 cc. The Topper is different from the others, and it has a cult following among some websites and groups that focus on this unusual motorcycle. Some people didn’t like it because it often overheated, since it had no cooling system. We think it’s more and more attractive, just like the Scootavia!
5) MSS-1 (1965)
This creation is the most unappealing of the whole series in my opinion. It was a Polish invention by the artist Stanislaw Skura, and that’s not an insult, since he became a renowned sculptor. He made everything from tanks to bicycles, including the splendid MSS 1.
It had a huge aircraft engine, and it was used as a weapon of war. It was Stanislaw himself who crafted it by hand in his father’s workshop. Today it is almost a cult item in Poland.
6) Honda NM4 Face (2016)
Maybe you’re considering or have already bought this amazing motorcycle. If so, I’m sorry, but I don’t like it at all.
This Honda beast was born in 2016. It’s a project by young engineers from the Japanese company, who had the freedom to create an innovative model, and they seem to have done it. They got their inspiration from Akira, a Japanese comic character, but they could have also used Batman.
The Vultus is equipped with the latest technology, it has a sophisticated automatic transmission with two clutches, so you get both a manual and an automatic motorcycle for the same price. The dashboard looks like a video game and has up to 25 different colors to choose from. You can buy it new for €12,000.
7) Aprilia Motorcycle 6.5 – Philippe Starck (1995-1996)
The design of this model was entrusted to the renowned designer Philippe Starck by Aprilia, who knew it would cause a stir. He succeeded, and this 1995 bike has many fans and critics.
This quirky Parisian lives in a hut without water or electricity, and we think he created the Motó for traveling in these isolated areas. Besides the Aprilia, Philippe has designed five-star hotels, chairs, and juicers.
8) UNO Dicycle (2008)
This invention is not a motorcycle, but a bicycle. It has two wheels in the middle of its frame and is powered by electricity. The Uno Dicycle works like the famous Segways, moving forward when the driver leans forward and stopping when the weight is moved backwards. The creator of the Uno was mentored by Trevor Blackwell, the inventor of the Segway.
The Uno was made in 2008 and won many design awards, but it is still on our list as one of the world’s ugliest motorcycles.
9) BMW K1 (1982-1993)
We are fans of BMWs. Azahara stays in our workshop, and we follow every model they make, so we couldn’t ignore the K1.
The wet German weather may need strong fairings to protect our bikes from the elements, but with the K1, BMW went too far.
1983 marked the birth of the model that BMW wanted to use to compete with the powerful Japanese brands that started to dominate Europe. It abandoned its two-cylinders, and with the K1 it made a big jump in power to 100 HP. It reached an impressive speed of 230 km/h, though its rivals reached 270 km/h.
It was a commercial failure. It was a long, heavy and hard motorcycle to ride, which couldn’t stop the Japanese invasion.
10) Morbidelli 850 V8 (1994)
This series concludes with the motorcycle that became the most costly in the world. It seems too much to pay $60,000 for such a beast, and it is certainly one of the worst-looking bikes around.
Morbidelli had achieved good results in the motorcycle world championships, and wanted to create a legendary motorcycle. It would not stand out by cylinders, since the Morbidelli had 8, with 120 horsepower, that could reach up to 230km/h. But it was a huge, heavy, ugly, and very pricey motorcycle.
This is our selection of the ugliest motorcycles, we have left quite a few horrors in the pipeline, but we want you to complete the list and tell us which are the ugliest motorcycles in the world for you . We await your comment!
